Private individual lessons, group lessons and our popular Player Development Program are all geared to improve your game.  The practice facilities at WindRose are second to none featuring a 15,000 square foot putting green, a 40 station tee line and short game complex capable of teaching large groups of students.

Jim Phenicie, PGA Director of Instruction, Clubfitting and Player Development

A native of Houston, Jim Phenicie has become one of the most sought after teachers and custom fitters in South Texas. Throughout his life, Jim was mentored by some of the best instructors in the country. Names like Hank Haney, Jim Flick, Chuck Cook, Jerry Smith and Dan Snider are just a few of the teachers that shaped Jim’s ideas today. Not long after graduating from Sam Houston State University with a BBA, Jim landed the Director of Instruction position at Kingwood Country Club’s Golf Advantage School where he directed the programs for 11 years. He also spent time in the dual role as Head Professional for the Forest Course (host to the movie Tin Cup) and as Director of the School.

Jim’s success followed him to WindRose Golf Club where he spent 7 years growing a Player Development Program into one of the largest in Texas, becoming the Advanced Fitting Works Center for Titleist and winning the coveted Southern Texas PGA Teacher of the Year award. This success continued as Jim spent 6 years at Royal Oaks CC in Houston as their Director of Instruction and Clubfitting where Jim received the Southern Texas PGA Presidents Plaque for Growing the Game. Jim returned to WindRose Golf Club in March 2016 as a partner in the ownership of WindRose along with Managing Partner and PGA Professional Kelly Walker. 

Since he began teaching, Jim’s has captured many awards as he is a five-time Southern Texas PGA Teacher of the Year and nominee for GOLF Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America. Jim has been selected to the Golf Digest “Best Teachers in State” list since 2003 and is a GOLF Magazine Best Regional Instructor selection in the Southern US. Jim also holds several professional clubfitting certifications and works with players to ensure that they have the right equipment for their game. 

Jim is a member of the Titleist Leadership Advisory Staff and the Prominent Fitter Team where he trained other PGA Professionals the art of custom fitting golf clubs. He has also served as a featured columnist for several monthly publications, as well as a frequent guest speaker on area radio and television programs. He is identified as a Top Instructor in the Houston area in both the BMW and Shell Golf Guides. Jim has also conducted seminars on teaching techniques for the advancement of PGA Professionals and has been on both the Southern Texas PGA Education Committee and Houston Golf Association Career Panel.

Garrett Nobles, PGA Head Professional

Garrett has over 6 years of teaching experience. He has been involved in the golf industry for most of his life and has a strong passion for the game. He believes that each person has a unique swing and the key to a successful lesson is introducing improved fundamentals and mechanics to that swing. Garrett specializes in developing the swings of juniors, and believes it’s never too early or late to improve your golf game.

Garrett’s professional accomplishments include graduating from the PGA Golf Management School at Sam Houston State University. He is a Class A PGA Professional and a Certified Teaching Professional. He brings energy and enthusiasm to each lesson and looks to create a positive judgment free environment for his students to learn and grow their game.

David Findlay, PGA Teaching Professional

David has been a PGA Member since 1969, and has extensive teaching experience. With over 46 years and 10,000 lessons to his credit, Dave has taught juniors, scratch players and Golf Professionals. Dave as also a very accomplished player, having played in the 1973 British Open at Royal Troon, the British Senior Open at Royal Lytham & St. Annes, the PGA Senior Championship at PGA National and two U.S. Senior Opens. He has also six hole in ones! 

Dave’s teaching philosophy is to focus on the grip, stance, posture and alignment, in conjunction with a strong short game. These are the main ingredients for reaching your potential, while enjoying your game of golf.

As a Club Professional, Dave is also a 3 time winner of the Southern Texas PGA Golf Professional of the Year and was also the National Vice President of the PGA of America for three years.  We are glad to have him aboard.

August Toudouze, PGA Teaching Assistant

August is a graduate of the Golf Academy of America with a degree in golf operations and management.  He is also a certified teaching professional and clubfitter.  August grew up playing competitive junior golf from the young age of 5 in San Antonio, Texas, and has been teaching juniors and golfers of all ages for the last 4 years. He had a number of influences in his upbringing such as top 100 instructor Bryan Gathright (mentored by Harvey Penick) and top 50 instructor Todd Sones. With his personal training background, coupled with his golf knowledge and experience with the game, he teaches a more holistic approach to developing the proper swing for each individual. Whether you want another 15 yards off the tee or you want to fix that nasty slice, he has something in his bag for you.
